2027: I Will Uphold Fairness in Choosing My Successor – Governor Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reaffirmed his commitment to fairness and equity in the process that will determine his successor in 2027, pledging to honour the principles of zoning that brought him to power.

Governor Sule made this known while receiving political stakeholders from the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, who paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House in Lafia.

Addressing the delegation, the Governor emphasized that he is a product of zoning and fairness, and therefore remains committed to ensuring that the process leading to the emergence of the next governor reflects those same values.

“I am a product of zoning, a product of fairness,” Governor Sule said. “By the grace of God, I will ensure fairness in the process of selecting my successor.”

He recalled how, in 2018, leaders from the Nasarawa North Senatorial District—including himself—had to appeal to other zones for the opportunity to produce the governor in the 2019 election.

“I will never forget Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who stood firm and insisted that the Northern Zone must be allowed to produce the next governor,” he recounted. “Thank you, Tanko Al-Makura. Thank you.”

Governor Sule acknowledged that candidates from all three senatorial districts—North, West, and South—contested the 2019 elections, but that divine providence led to his emergence as governor.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that the people of Nasarawa West would rally behind his administration and continue to support the state’s progress, regardless of who succeeds him.

“I understand your desire for leadership, and I believe that once we have a successor, we can work together to fully harness the state’s potential for the benefit of all,” the Governor said. “I heard your message loud and clear. I am also encouraged by the large turnout. When the time comes and a governor emerges from your zone, you will remember that you worked hard for this opportunity. I cannot afford to disappoint you. This is why I work day and night.”

Earlier, former Governor of Nasarawa State and leader of the delegation, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, expressed the West’s ambition to produce the next governor and sought the support of Governor Sule and his administration.

Senator Adamu, who also served as the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighted the purpose of their visit, which he said had two key objectives.

“First, we are here to express our solidarity and support for Governor Sule and his administration,” Adamu stated. “We thank God for sustaining your mandate and appreciate your outstanding contributions to the development of Nasarawa State. If the constitution allowed a third term, we would be here campaigning for you.”

He continued: “Secondly, we are here with open arms to request your support and that of your administration to help realise our aspiration for one of us to succeed you come 2027.”
